Shari's launches program with reusable bags for take-home

October 3, 2009

Donation made to Boys & Girls Club with each bag use

October 2009 - Beaverton, OR  A Northwest local favorite, Shari's Restaurant recently launched a charitable campaign that expands their longtime relationship with the Boys and Girls Club.  In addition to intoducing reusable bags to be used for their famous pies, for every pie purchased (including their all northwest-grown fruit pies)  and taken home in the sustainable satchels, Shari's will donate $0.25 to the Boys & Girls Club on behalf of each customer.

For the past 15 years, Shari's Restaurants and the Boys & Girls Club of Portland Metro have had a close relationship.  It began when Shari's sponsored a golf tournament callled "Grip It and Rip It".  Over the years the annual event has brought in $1.5 million for the Boys & Girls Club, which provides activities and after-school sites for 22,000 kids.

"Shari's is embedded in our culture,"  Boys & Girls Club of Metro Portland CEO Joe Marziello said, noting that Shari's donates $10 birthday gift certificates and has been a sponsor for one of the main fundraising events each year,  a Wine and Cheese event.

Now pie-lovers can support the Boys & Girls Club near their local Shari's, as the money donated from Shari's on behalf of customers taking home pies in reusable bags will be donated to the community's Boys & Girls Clubs surrounding Shari's locations.

"Shari's has a heritage of community involvement and caring, " Shari's Senior VP of Menu Development Kevin Bechtel said, adding, "We've added a sustainable twist with the donation to the Boys & Girls Club every time a customer takes home one of our pies, from our gourmet cream pies to all local Northwest-grown fruit pies, in a reusable bag."

Shari's is doing its part to help local neighborhoods and the environment.  A community favorite for decades, Shari's Resaurants uses fresh ingredients and all local Northwest-grown fruit, making their award-winning pies into Northwest traditions.  Now these best-selling delights can be taken home in a reusable pie bag, all while donating to a great cause.
